Steps for Custom Tatami Orders
Tatami mats can be customized in size, thickness, and materials. Typically, customers choose the size and the "Beri" (border) design. Here is a guide on how to place your custom order.
1. Measurement
First, please measure the space where you intend to place the tatami. If you provide the length and width, we can suggest the best layout and sizing. While we can manufacture mats to your exact requested dimensions, there is an important point to note for wall-to-wall installations.
Important Note on Sizing:
When tatami mats are laid out together, they tend to expand slightly. Additionally, there may be slight measurement margins. To prevent the mats from not fitting into your room, we intentionally manufacture them a few millimeters smaller. If any gaps occur, using baseboards (Habaki) will ensure a beautiful finish.
In Japan, professionals handle measurements and adjustments on-site. However, since adjustments are difficult once shipped abroad, we prioritize a slightly smaller fit to avoid installation issues.
2. Quotation
Once we have the required number of mats, sizes, and the destination country, we will provide a quote. For large orders, customs duties may apply in the destination country. Please note that these duties and any required phytosanitary inspection fees are not included in the initial quote.

3. Order Confirmation
Upon agreement of the quote, we require a down payment of **30% of the total amount** to finalize and secure the order.
4. Production
Material ordering begins once payment is confirmed. Production typically takes **2 to 3 weeks** and is carried out in Tokyo. Please note that lead times may vary during Japanese public holidays, such as the New Year season.
5. Shipping
After production is complete, we will send you photos of the finished products. Once you have confirmed the results, we ask for the payment of the remaining balance.
After confirming the final payment, the mats will be carefully packed and shipped to your destination.
